Wight Walking Weekend scheduled for next month | | | | 25 September 2008 | People who like nothing more than pulling on their hiking boots and going for a long stroll can embark on ferry crossings to the Isle of Wight next month for the Wight Walking Weekend.
This event will be held from October 24th to 27th and will incorporate nearly 50 accompanied and guided walks.
The Isle of Wight is one of the UK's best walking destinations, boasting 500 miles of footpaths, 60 miles of heritage coastline and several areas of outstanding natural beauty.
Visitors will be able to follow trails including the National Trust footpath to Tennyson Down, a clifftop stretch that offers views of the Needles.
The Wight Walking Weekend will hope to build on the success of the Isle of Wight Walking Festival, which celebrated its tenth year in May.
Isle of Wight Council events officer Elaine Cesar said: "This four-day version of the walking festival will focus on the most popular walks which are suitable for all abilities and give visitors the chance to enjoy the seasonal changes that autumn brings to the island's picturesque landscape - on foot."
Ferry crossings to the Isle of Wight are available from Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington with Red Funnel and Wightlink. |
