The Isle of Wight Walking Festival will celebrate its 12th birthday this year by becoming "bigger and better than ever", according to
Wightlink.
Due to take place from May 8th to 23rd, the event will encompass over 300 walking routes, taking participants to beaches, along cliff paths, through woodland and even to a monastery.
People interested in joining in this year can take
ferries from Lymington to Yarmouth with Wightlink.
Over 5,000 walkers visited the Isle of Wight from mainland Britain for the 2009 festival, a number that is set to be surpassed this year.
Available routes include the challenging 72-mile round-the-island walk, a forest safari offering an insight into a range of woodland habitats and a coastal itinerary in Ventnor focusing on edible plants.
Veteran actor Brian Blessed will be taking part in the 2010 Isle of Wight Walking Festival, taking to the stage at the Medina Theatre on May 21st to tell the story of his ascent of Mount Everest.
People travelling to the Isle of Wight can also take
ferries from Portsmouth to Fishbourne and Ryde with Wightlink.
