Wightlink has recommended spring cycling holidays on the Isle of Wight for travellers who fancy an adventurous getaway this year.
The company pointed out that the island was recently recognised by Lonely Planet, which named it one of the world's leading cycling destinations in its Best in Travel 2010 guide.
Landscapes ranging from "quiet country lanes to sweeping valleys, chalk cliffs, downs and ancient woodland" mean that the Isle of Wight is a "long-time favourite with outdoor enthusiasts", according to
Wightlink.
The company operates ferries to Fishbourne and Ryde from Portsmouth, as well as a Lymington to Yarmouth ferry service.
Cyclists can choose from a number of routes once they arrive on the Isle of Wight, such as the challenging 'round the island' ride, which covers a distance of 62 miles.
Wightlink has also produced a guide for people who would prefer a more manageable challenge, with itineraries of between five and eight miles in length that take in nature reserves, river estuaries, forests and more.
The ferry operator allows passengers to transport their bicycles for free.
Alternatively, travellers can hire a bike on the island and arrange to pick it up at the ferry terminal when they arrive.
