Winter link for Mersey

A new winter weekend ferry service between Birkenhead and the Isle of Man has been confirmed.

Due to customer demand the Ben-my-Chree will sail from Twelve Quays on Saturdays and Sundays, from November 10 until February 24, 2008.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company's Superseacat Two fastcraft service will start on the route from the Liverpool landing stage from March 1, 2008.

Chief executive Mark Woodward said the firm has carried 50,000 more passengers this year on the Liverpool and Heysham to Douglas routes.

He added: "We're pleased to be able to offer a weekend service to Twelve Quays that proved so popular earlier this year.

"Many of our customers requested a return of this service so we are happy to be able to oblige.
