Port Askaig, on the charming and historic island of Islay in Scotland, contains no more than a few houses, a shop, a petrol station, a lifeboat station and one hotel. When the weather is rough, because it is in a sheltered position, Port Askaig is sometimes used as an alternative ferry port by ferries that would normally go to Port Ellen.
Port Askaig is the second main ferry port on the island of Islay offering day trips to Colonsay and Oban once a week during the summer. Oban is the main hub for all transport links in the West Highlands and islands.
Port Askaig is the perfect place to escape from the stresses and strains of everyday life on the mainland. Just before reaching Port Askaig you can see the magnficent Dunlossit House, the island home of billionaire merchant banker and landowner Bruno L Schroder.
