Chamonix is situated in the north-westerly part of the French Alps, only 15km from the borders of Italy and Switzerland. The resort of Chamonix is located at an altitude of 1035 meters, and is dominated by the Mont Blanc mountain range, offering skiers some of the highest slopes in the Alps. The most popular runs in the area consist of Le Brevent, Les Houches, domaine du Balme and the Grands Montets. Chamonix is well known for its fantastic off-piste skiing and snowboarding opportunities with around 30,000 acres to explore, as well its excellent winter snow record.
Chamonix - Resort Information
The resort of Chamonix also offers plenty of winter activities for the non-skier including ice climbing, motorised ski adventures, sleigh riding, and dog sledding, among others. The Alpine museum and Mont Blanc observatory are worth a visit, including a scenic trip on the Alps highest train through `Mer de Glace' (sea of ice) glacier. The resort itself offers plenty of facilities to relax in after a hard days skiing, including restaurants, cafes, pubs, bars and a casino.
