It saved time and money by cutting out the road Nantes to Gijon. However the cost of a bed at nearly 70euros was a little bit of sharp practice. At 50euros say, one could accept but 70 is too high. But the boat was clean and staff reasonable but not great. The food looked a bit tired. But for the convenience I would do it again. 5.8
Although cabin was clean it lacked basic facilities eg tea and coffee making equipment and tv the bed clothes were very sparse and the mattress was lacking in depth making getting in and out of bed somewhat painful as a support edge protruded on the getting out side All this was not adding to the pleasure of the sail and of course lack of information as to the sea conditions The stairs escalator did not start until we had mounted numerous stairs which should have been started as soon as passengers left their vehicles not when two other people had brought it to the crews notice 5.8
Everything as expected. Outward journey comfortable had a very acceptable 3 course dinner, slept well in unsophisticated but adequate cabin. Finding ferry terminal at St. Nazaire an absolute nightmare. Very poor signposting along dark lanes not recognised by satnav. Return jouney OK despite very rough crossing. Car ended up on deck 5, open air which meant a 30 minute wait for disembarkation at St. Nazaire. Breakfast not a patch on Le Havre-Portsmouth route. No package availble unless you are a lorry driver. 6.8 6.4
Overall satisified. By taking the ferry, one saves approximately 800km by car. Nevertheless the 15 hours on the ferry, versus 8 hours by car and the price are not a real alternative. furthermore in winter, the cantabrian sea can get quite unpleasant due to strong winds and high waves. |
