How ironic to be sent a review for a trip that was booked but never took place. The NorthLink Ferry ceased operation because of mechanical failures but we were left high and dry and had to find our own way to the Orkney Islands. Thankfully Pentland Ferries was our solution and will be our choice of ferry from now on. 5.6
Nice voyage, super cabin but very expencive breakfast with staff who openhearted made fun of a foreigner with mediocre knowledge to English and without experience to the serving system in the ferry restaurant. They tried to make me feel stupid, and they succeed in making me feel unwelcome. I'll been traveling all over the world during the last 40 years and seldom been treated like that before. 8.0
To make conditions for passengers more comfortable the Captain took a longer and calmer route than normally scheduled due to wind and sea conditions. Result - I missed a transport connection. Lesson - allow extra time in your plans if you have to be somewhere at a particular time. Otherwise the journey and facilities on board were good. 7.8 8.0
The crew at the check in desk was very helpful and nice, thry made me feel very welcome. I'm also very satisfied with the actual boat and seats. The seats were comfy and you had enough space for your legs and feet. Although I'm a bit disappointed about the other things, the little extras like food an arcade games etc. In the cafeteria you even have to pay for salt, even though the food itself isn't very cheap. The arcade games were expensive as well and these things together put my overall rating down with a star. I liked how clean the toilets were and I was surprised they weren't smelly or dirty. So unlike in many other places you could actually use those. So even though it wasn't perfect I was more than satisfied with the trip. Could've been a bit cheaper though. I'd have rather spent the money at the actual destination. |
