The ferry and the crossing were fine, but of dear, the Port of Dover is atrocious.
    • Dover to Calais with DFDS Seaways

The check in, loading and ship facilities were good. Not great, but good enough for a short channel hop. We had to wait about 90 minutes on the concourse of the Port of Dover and can only describe this as awful. There is only a basic toilet, nowhere to buy a cup of coffee or to sit outside. Drab and unwelcoming is about as good as it gets. At least calais, on the return leg, had coffee machines and sandwiches on offer, and the facilities (whilst not great) are at least modern. We have vowed to avoid Dover in future at all costs.

    Motorhome via Calais
    • Calais to Dover with DFDS Seaways

I booked from Calais a couple of days before travel and that was really easy. I am going to address the issue of Calais port and the migrant situation in a video on my youtube.com channel called alanheath Suffice to say, controls were strict but it was professional and in the spirit of everyone having a laugh so there was no problem there. The ferry was almost empty. Some of the lads from DFDS posed next to my motorhome for a photo and after that I sat in the lounge for the duration of the trip. It was almost empty. Unfortunately the internet did not work - I have been on board before where I had constant access to the web. This is the reason for only three stars. I did not try the catering. The seats could have been cleaner but I don't expect it to look like a five star hotel! I am very happy with the journey and shall be booking via Aferry again in the future.

We caught the Dover to Dunkirk ferry and the trip was smooth and without incident, very enjoyable.
