About Stari Grad

Stari Grad, or Pharos, is the oldest town in Croatia, dating from 384 B.C., and can be found on the Northern part of the island of Hvar, on Croatia's Dalmatia coast. Stari Grad's beautiful location combines superb beaches with mountainous terrain, making Stari Grad a popular location with climbers and beach enthusiasts alike.

Stari Grad's ancient roots have left the town with a wealth of historical and cultural attractions that all will enjoy; you can visit remains from the Roman and Early Christian period, such as the remains of the villa rustica at Pod Dolom and the baptistery beside the medieval church of St. Ivan. Another place worth visiting is the fortified Dominican monastery with is home to an excellent collection of documents, books, paintings, stone monuments and fossils.

Stari Grad, which literally means `old town', has much to offer the visitor, from restaurants serving local food, to sports such as tennis, beach volleyball, miniature golf and water sports. Stari Grad also has frequent cultural shows and events.
