About Stockholm

Stockholm, Sweden's capital, is made up of 14 small islands, each distinct in character and mood; from the upmarket Östermalm and the bohemian Södermalm to the historic Gamla Stan. Stockholm is often referred to as the `Venice of the North', with its pretty islands and 52 connecting bridges. Stockholm is also considered to be the capital of Scandinavia, and is a popular tourist destination offering visitors beautiful landscape, stylish boutiques, stunning art galleries and much more.

Stockholm offers its visitors an array of exciting things to see and do. Museums include the Skansen open-air museum of Swedish life and culture, with historic buildings, working farms, a zoo and an aquarium. There is a vast number of walking tours and excursions to enjoy in Stockholm, and many important buildings to visit. The Royal Djurgarden park is an island consisting of beautiful parkland and forest, and the Old Town of Stockholm offers the Drottningholm Palace, which is the home of the Swedish Royal Family; and the remains of the Viking settlement, Birka. History lovers can take a guided city tour, which is offered in many different languages.

There is also plenty for younger visitors to do in Stockholm, from the Junibacken park, the wonderful world of master story-teller Astrid Lindgren, to attractions such as the Museum of Music, the Toy Museum and Skansen's Aquarium.

Stockholm port facilities

The Stockholm ferry port provides a wide range of facilities and services for passengers, including Stockholm information kiosks that provide help with hotel bookings. The city centre is within easy walking distance from the port, and offers a myriad of shopping and dining options.

Stockholm Ferry Port provides facilities for those with disabilities, with special cabins available on board some vessels. However, passengers are recommended to inform their ferry operator of any special requirements prior to travelling.

Car parks are provided at the port for both short and long-term stays, with specially designated areas available for those with disabilities.

Getting to Stockholm

Stockholm is very well integrated into the European rail and road networks, providing efficient links to the European continent. The European motorway E18 leads to Oslo and motorways E20 and E6 connect with Oslo via Gothenburg. The European motorway E4 runs as far as Malmö.

Stockholm offers national and international rail links to the rest of Sweden and rest of Europe via the X2000 express. Trains also run as far as Oslo and other destinations in Norway. The Cityterminalen, next to Central Station, provides international bus links and connections to many major European centres. Locally, the metro network provides a fast and convenient way of travelling around the city of Stockholm.

    • Helsinki to Stockholm with Tallink Silja

I chose this ferry because the price was really low and my expectations about what I would find were low, according the price I payed. However I found a very good service, facilities, activities. My cabin was very clean, silent, with all that I need (toilet etc.). I highly recommend this option (aferry) to travel from Helsinki to Stockholm.
