Please note that because of the continuing dangerous situation in Syria that the route of Venice - Tartous - Alexandria has been suspended for the time being. It is unknown when normal service will resume.
Located on the outskirts of the city of Tartus, a short distance from the city centre, Tartus ferry port does not offer much in terms of passenger facilities as it is geared up mostly towards freight traffic but with the addition of Visemar Line's new ferry route between Venice, Alexandria and Tartus, these facilities are set to improve. However, all the facilities such as shops, restaurants etc are available just a short distance away in the Tartus city centre.
Tartus (also known as Tartous), the second largest ferry port on the Syrian coast lies on the east coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Tartus ferry port is undergoing a major expansion to aid the development of its neighbouring country Iraq as many Iraqi imports come in through the port of Tartus in Syria. Tartus also has a well developed road network and highways.
The city of Tartus is not only an important centre for trade in Syria but also a major tourist destination. Bordered by the Alawite Mountains to the east, miles of good sandy beaches, several resorts as well as the island of Arwad (just a few kilometres off the coast of Tartus), all this coupled with warm Mediterranean climate, Tartus offers a perfect break.
