About Ancona

Ancona became one of the major ports of the Adriatic between the thirteenth and fourteenth century, second only to Venice. However, in later years Ancona, like other Italian towns, became the scene of many battles connected to the wars of independence, and was also the target of foreign occupations, including the massive air bombing campaigns during World War II, which destroyed whole areas of Ancona, and badly damaged the port.

About Durres

The port of Durres is located in the heart of the city, which is approximately 39 from Tirana. The port of Durres is Albania's largest sea port and offers great links to Italy - the best way to book these ferries is here, through AFerry

Durres is one of Albania's oldest cities and was founded as a Greek colony in 627 B.C. Since then, the city has grown and expanded while preserving monuments of the ancient city. Now Durres is the second largest and one of the most economically developed cities in Albany due to the large port that allows trading in the Adriatic Sea.

The recent construction of a motorway that links Durres with Tirana has cut down the travelling time to the capital to only 30 minutes. Tirana is also accessible by train, between Durres and Tirana there is a frequent and cheap rail service.

Durres has a Mediterranean climate that makes it a popular summer holiday destination for local and foreign tourists. Tourists can enjoy beautiful sandy beaches and clear Adriatic seawater at the beaches of Durres and Currilave.

Some important buildings and museum worth visiting in Durres include the Museum of History, the Archaeological Museum, the Philharmonic orchestra, the Puppet Theatre, the Estrada Theatre as well as the Main library and The Cultural Centre with the "Aleksander Moisiu" Theatre.

As one of Albania's oldest cities, Durres also has many important historical sites, such as the Venetian Tower and the Medieval Town Walls. If you prefer being outdoors, Durres has numerous parks and flower gardens; on the hills of the city there is an open theatre too. Durres has long, beautiful beaches and nearby can be found the well-known beach resort of Durres Plazh.

    Better than before
    • We have travelled with Adria 3 times now the first 2 were on AF michela which we found dirty and not that great but got us were we needed to be! But last year 2014 we travelled return on AF Francesca and had a completely different experience ! The beds were clean and the pillows didn't smell! The restaurant food was lovely and the staff seemed friendly, I don't know if it was just because we were on a different ferry or if Adria are making improvements but we were happy!
