Ancona became one of the major ports of the Adriatic between the thirteenth and fourteenth century, second only to Venice. However, in later years Ancona, like other Italian towns, became the scene of many battles connected to the wars of independence, and was also the target of foreign occupations, including the massive air bombing campaigns during World War II, which destroyed whole areas of Ancona, and badly damaged the port.
Though representing a part of the diverse southern Croatian archipelago formed by numerous islands, Hvar has been the subject of recognition, distinguished by both its natural beauty and its cultural strata since the early days.
Hvar has recently acquired the status of being one of the most beautiful islands in the world thanks to its mild climate with warm winters and pleasant summers along with the gorgeous lavender fields, olive trees and vineyards.
Hvar offers endless possibilities to spend your holidays with beautiful sandy beaches, unique gastronomy, high quality accommodation facilities and a cosmopolitan lifestyle along with many bars, night clubs and restaurants.

Absolute chaos! Different instructions from staff regarding boarding and directions. Everyone except the driver had to vacate the car on the dock and foot passengers carrying cases then wandered between vehicles and different ships. On board cabin was very second rate, food was cold and staff indifferent. However if you are 20 years old with a backpack, your own sandwiches and like sleeping on deck under the stars then this is the ferry for you.
