Bar is a coastal town and port in southern Montenegro. The town is not very big with about 18,000 residents but there are plenty of things to see and do including the old town of Bar, Haj Nehaj Fortress and the castle of King Nikola. And of course Bar features wonderful beaches with crystal clear water - typical of the region.

If planning to stay for a few days or more you will find plenty of options in terms of hotels and guest rooms as well as restaurants and bars.

About Bari

The whole region of Bari is scattered with various interesting places to see. Basilica di San Nicola, The church of St. Sabinus (built in Byzantine style), Petruzzelli Theatre (a grand opera house), and Castello Svevo (The Norman-Hohenstaufen Castle) are just a few of these attractions.

    Ok but a few issues.
    • It was a nice trip overall, but a few issues. All catering stops at 12am, we didn't know this and there was no obvious sign, when I say all I mean all, not even a peanut or slice of bread. Rooms basic but clean, staff were lovely.

    Excellent Experience
    • Check - in staff very helpful and courteous! Boarding well handled, room was comfortable, if not luxurious, and private washroom worked well. Would definitely take this journey again.

    Never again!!!
    • As travel goes, this was the worst !!! People should be informed before booking on Montenegro Lines, that this ferry is for big commercial trucks. Passenger cars have to wait until all the trucks are loaded on board. That took almost 2 hours. Usually the firstcar in line is the first to come out. Not here!!! Now about the ship. It's absolutely horrible. Cabin was disgusting, but the bathroom took the first prize. I was afraid to step in there. So,if you have a choice , do not travel on Montenegro Lines.

Mostly good, a nice way to travel
    • The ferry left about 30-45mins late, which we'd been led to expect from previous reviews. The ferry staff were welcoming and friendly. We had airplane seats booked and because of low numbers we'd plenty of space. A lot of teenagers on the journey so getting to sleep was an issue. Great coffee on board and this and fresh pastries very welcome in morning.Alternatives to full sit-down meal would have been welcome though. Toilets were clean enough, not great. All in all, good experience.

    Bar - Bari ferry review
    • We had looked at reviews for Montenegro Lines before embarking and found reactions were mixed. Many complained that the service departed or arrived several hours late. While the ferry did leave and arrive a bit late it was not catastrophic. The facilities were OK, the catering was affordable and the trip itself didn't break the bank. So apart from being about an hour late or so, it wasn't bad. My advice is make time allowances if you're getting a train or flight from Bari.
