About Barcelona

Barcelona is the capital of Spain's Catalonia region, and is one of the Spain's, or even Europe's, most beautiful and vibrant cities. Barcelona is a city of contrasts, which is evident in its architecture, a marriage of Gothic spikes and modern curves, including the famous - Sagrada Familia.

Barcelona is divided into two parts. The old city, which is the heart of the city, includes shopping, cafes and museums. Then there's Port Vell, which features bars, restaurants, shops, an IMAX theatre and the largest aquarium in Europe, not too far from the main Barcelona ferry port.

About Civitavecchia

Civitavecchia Ferry Port has access to the most important national and European road and rail networks.

Civitavecchia(meaning "ancient Town") took the brunt of the two World Wars because of its strategic importance as a Roman Port and in the due course most of the city's archaeological treasures and old buildings were destroyed.

But, some of the interesting sites that still remain are the 16th century Fort Michelangelo and the Piazza Leandra along with some interesting hot spring baths from the Roman times.

    Decent ferry
    • This is a good way to get from Spain to Italy or vice versa. This ferry was much better than the Grimaldi ferry to Savona. We were on a fairly new ferry and everything was clean.

    Ferry from Barcelona to Civitavechia
    • Food was fine, though contrary to what we were told, the cafeteria wasn't open in the afternoon. Fortunately the bar served food. Pleased that most areas are non-smoking. We had a cabin with window, and found it satisfactory. The ship was 1 and a half hour late leaving, but arrived on time. Much easier than flying.

    Trip from Marbella to Malta
    • Apart from the disorganised loading of our vehicle and the kennel facilities. Our journey was uneventful.
