About Civitavecchia

Civitavecchia Ferry Port has access to the most important national and European road and rail networks.

Civitavecchia(meaning "ancient Town") took the brunt of the two World Wars because of its strategic importance as a Roman Port and in the due course most of the city's archaeological treasures and old buildings were destroyed.

But, some of the interesting sites that still remain are the 16th century Fort Michelangelo and the Piazza Leandra along with some interesting hot spring baths from the Roman times.

About Barcelona

Barcelona is the capital of Spain's Catalonia region, and is one of the Spain's, or even Europe's, most beautiful and vibrant cities. Barcelona is a city of contrasts, which is evident in its architecture, a marriage of Gothic spikes and modern curves, including the famous - Sagrada Familia.

Barcelona is divided into two parts. The old city, which is the heart of the city, includes shopping, cafes and museums. Then there's Port Vell, which features bars, restaurants, shops, an IMAX theatre and the largest aquarium in Europe, not too far from the main Barcelona ferry port.

    Best value for money
    • Although the on-board food (especially that served on the main deck) could be made better. Other than that everything was much more than what we had expected.

    A very nice ship!
    • The ship has very good facilities. Only leaving the ship in Barcelona was chaotic.

    Highly Recommended
    • We have read poor reviews of this service, and were extremely pleasantly surprised to have the exact opposite experience. It was all extremely efficient and easy. We were on a bit of a budget, so opted for the 'cheapie chairs', which were more comfortable and spacious than airline seats. We would probably splurge on a cabin next time, mainly to keep all the gadgets charged up easier. Everything ran smoothly, left on time, arrived on time, and we were in our hotel in Barcelona before 7pm after arriving at 6.15. We found the bathroom arrangements clean and plentiful. Staff were very friendly, and helpful, some of whom are very good singers as they get about their duties. Taking our hire car was more cost effective than driving the distance when weighing up tolls, fuel and probably 2 nights accom and, you get to gaze out over the Med and experience this vast body of water in pitch black night and sunrise (if desired). Pretty special. The food available for purchase won't win awards, but, good enough, decent servings and very reasonably priced, especially given the captive audience they have. Taking the pre purchase meal options is worthy of consideration; we did not as we had already booked, it was too late. If you consider this part of your holiday or experience and not a mode of transport it may be more enjoyable.
