Corvo Island is the smallest and northernmost island of the Azores and has about 468 inhabitants. Together with the neighbouring island of Flores, Corvo forms the western group of the Azores. Corvo and Flores were discovered at the same time by the Portuguese explorer Diogo de Teive around 1452. Corvo's origin is volcanic, and the only settlement on the island, Vila Nova do Corvo, is built on an ancient lava flow typical of the Azores. It is a picturesque village with gravel roads full of houses decorated with whitewashed doors and windows on the black stone facades. These houses are often equipped with wooden castles made by the craftsmen of Corvo, a symbol of the island's tradition that it is a peaceful island where everyone knows everyone.
Corvo ferry port
Corvo ferry port is located in the southeast of the island, close to the island's main settlements and facilities.
