The landscape of Favignana is often compared to that of a butterfly. Two flat stretches of land lie as wings on either side of a high rocky spine, which is topped by a decaying fortress. Ferries arrive at Favignana town, the one densely populated area on the island. The town is situated on the eastern side of the island, which is connected to the western side by a road-tunnel through the rocky spine which divides the two plains.
Absorb the atmosphere of the island and take a stroll around the town, you will find many interesting shops for tourists, including fishmongers selling fish freshly caught that day. Favignana has a rich heritage in tuna-fishing and you will see this in the market stalls.
If you need to relax and soak in the sun, there are plenty of small beaches for you to choose from. Lido Burrone is a wide sandy beach accompanied by a bar and a restaurant making it a great spot if you are visiting with children. Sunbeds and parasols are available to rent.
If you are after something a little different, one of the best bathing spots is Cala Rossa, a bay enclosed in a rocky coastline. This can be difficult to reach so may not be suitable if you are visiting with children, but it is worth it once you reach the beach.
