More about Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura is one of the Canary Islands found just off the coast of Africa. It has beautiful weather all year round, rarely going under 20 degrees Celsius. From a selection of water sports and beautiful beaches, to museums and excursions about the island and its culture, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Fuerteventura Travel Guide
Fuerteventura is the second biggest island of the Canary archipelago after Tenerife, being most of its extension of a rocky nature and sparse vegetation. The weather conditions are usually good due to its proximity to the Tropic of Cancer, the temperatures oscillate from 17°C in January and 25°C in August. This type of climate, similar to that of the state of Florida for being located on the same latitude, and its 47 miles of beautiful white, gold and black sandy beaches, make of this island a great place for the tourism. Its time zone is the same as in the UK.
Things to Do
The water sports are very popular in Fuerteventura, every year hundreds of surf, windsurf, kitesurf and scuba diving enthusiasts enjoy the fantastic waters around the island. During the past years the island has hosted some PWA summer competitions.
Things to See
Apart from stunning beaches and water sports, Fuerteventura offers interesting cultural and entertainment options to its visitors, like the archaeology and ethnography museum of Betancuria, where you'll be able to explore the aboriginal culture of the island, or the La Alcogida Eco Museum, that offers an interesting insight into the island's past though the recreation of the rural life and its craftwork.
The island also has a golf course, a zoo, aquatic park and marine excursions.
Travelling to Fuerteventura
The island is interconnected with the rest of islands and also connected to the mainland Spanish port of Cádiz. The main island ports are Corralejo, Puerto del Rosario and Morro Jable.
