About Honduras

Of great natural beauty and with a fascinating Mayan and Azteca legacy, the Republic of Honduras, located in central America , is a country worth visiting.

The geography of the country is quite rugged, with mountain ranges, plateaus and deep valleys, ideal for adventure tourism. But if what you like is to relax and soak up the sunlight, northern and eastern coasts bathe in the Caribbean Sea, providing wonderful white sandy beaches and turquoise waters. The great biodiversity of these waters will delight scuba diving enthusiasts.

The climate is tropical with abundant rainfall and warm temperatures throughout the year, ranging from 17°C minimum to maximums of 38°C during the summer months.

Tegucigalpa, capital of the country, has clear examples of colonial architecture and offers interesting museums, cathedrals and restaurants serving traditional food. It is followed in importance by San Pedro Sula, called the industrial capital of the country because of its numerous industries. La Ceiba, located on the Caribbean coast is another important city, famous for its Carnival, besides being the gateway to the Bay Islands, from where the ferry leaves for the island of Roatan.

Honduras Travel Guide

Honduras offers exciting experiences such as Eco tourism and adventure sports, from diving, rafting and trekking in unspoiled places that do not suffer from excessive tourism.

One of the most emblematic places to visit in Honduras is Copan, the city that is home to Mayan ruins dating back from more than 1300 years ago when this civilization flourished in this area.

If what you are looking for is to relax in the waters of the Caribbean Sea, the Bay Islands archipelago is your place to be. Situated on the Caribbean coast of Honduras, it's formed by three islands of greater size, Utila, Roatan and Guanaja, three minor islands and more than 60 cays.

These islands were discovered by Christopher Columbus on his last trip to the continent in 1502. They remained under the domination of the Spanish and English kingdoms until the latter ceded the control of the Islands to the Republic of Honduras in 1859.

The tourism industry is very developed in the bigger islands thanks to its privileged geography and location. English is widely spoken, the same as Spanish.

Each island has different nuances, although they have in common the main attraction: the diving. The waters of the Caribbean Sea are famous for its turquoise colour and its great biodiversity. Besides, here is the barrier reef of the Bay Islands, making this archipelago the best diving place in Central America. Naturally after a few days in the islands, visitors find hard having to leave!
