More about Lanzarote

Lanzarote is one of the Canary Islands found just of the coast of Africa, just 7 miles away from the north east coast of Fuerteventura. Lanzarote was formed from volcanic activity, and therefore has extravagant rock formations. The island is warm all year round, but due to its location it can often be quite windy compared to some of the other canary islands.

Lanzarote Travel Guide

Located in the Canary archipelago, Lanzarote is only 79 miles off the coast of Africa.

About Lanzarote

Lanzarote is the most easterly of the Canary Islands, and at 37 miles long and 12 miles wide it is the fourth largest of the Canaries. The island enjoys warm temperatures all year round, with temperatures ranging from 21 degrees Celsius in January to 29 degrees Celsius in August. And with an annual total of just 140mm of rainfall, Lanzarote is an ideal getaway all year round.

The canary islands have volcanic origins making the landscape very distinctive. Lanzarote's most recent eruptions only occurred in the 19th century, and with a dry climate and lack of erosion this has meant that Lanzarote's landscape hasn't changed much in appearance. This gives the island a unique look and offers some stunning scenery. The longest Volcanic Tunnel in the world, called the Atlántida Tunnel, can be found in Lanzarote. It is 7km long and features some beautiful caves and hidden gems.

Things to Do

You will find some beautiful white beaches in Lanzarote, with a good range of water sports to enjoy, such as surfing, windsurfing, snorkelling, diving etc. There are also a number of other activities and days out such as camel rides, zoos, golf, go karting, a waterpark and various bars and restaurants.

Things to See

Lanzarote has some truly beautiful sites to visit. Jameis del Agua, which can be found in the north of the island, is part of the Atlantida cave system and is definitely worth a visit. Here you will find a beautiful swimming area, gardens and restaurants.

Also part of the Atlantida cave system is the Cave of Los Verdes. Here 2km of spectacularly formed caves can be viewed. Here you can have a guided tour of the caves and discover how the caves were formed and a secret surprise is unveiled. There is also an area in the cave where concerts are held.

    Trip to Lanzarote.
    • It was easy to check ourselves and our vehicle onto the Ferry. I would advise anyone who is travelling with or without a vehicle to get to the port early ( about 1 hour ) , before departure as it does get busy and all paperwork does have to be checked . Quick journey to Lanzarote , 25 minutes . Staff very efficient so it was made easy by them.

    Great trip
    • We had a great trip over to lanzarote and back. The 45mins on the boat went in so quickly and as it's open top you just take in all the views. Would definitely recommend using this company.

    OK Journey
    • We took a short journey from Corralejo, Fuerteventura to Playa Blanca, Lanzarote in January. This is not a large ferry but rather a medium-sized boat, so it can be a bit unsteady when there are waves. I even saw one small boy throw up, and the crew swiftly and professionally cleaned the mess. The boat wasn't crowded, which was convenient.
