Ios island is situated in the Greek Cyclades Islands and is a famous tourist destination, attracting visitors with its golden beaches and the characteristic Aegean architecture. The island is just 18km long and 10km wide with a small population of 1,820 people.
Ios is also well known as one of the top Greek party islands alongside Mykonos, with its wealth of discos and bars in the main town; Chora and the various beaches. Most tourists either stay in the many hotels within the main village of Chora or head to the package beach areas of Theodoti, Kalamos and Manganari.
Ios, however, also caters for people looking for a quieter, more relaxing holiday, with its long stretches of sandy beaches and crystal clear waters.
Mykonos is a very cosmopolitan island, made famous in the last few decades by the international jet set visitors that spend their holidays on the island. Mykonos is a great place to see Greek and international celebrities. Some people think you have not really seen what Greece has to offer until you visit Mykonos.
Mykonos has a great night life with many discos and bars throughout the island along with some beautiful sandy beaches. All in all Mykonos is a friendly little picturesque town with beautiful white houses, narrow stone paths and windmills along with many interesting museums and town centres.
Mykonos also offers a variety of cuisines to cater to the large influx of international tourists along with local Greek delicacies and also offers a host of beautiful accommodation facilities and resorts.

07 Sep 2013nice experience
We travelled with Bluestar ferries to mykonos from Ios and from Mykonos to Athens. It was a nice experience as you sit at tables where you'd like (restaurant take out vibe). Although the ferries take longer to reach their destinations than the highspeed ferries, we felt more comfortable on bluestar as its more relaxed and there are more options of restaurants to choose from. They are also much cheaper. However, if you'd prefer a highspeed ferry, Hellenic seaways will be recommended as they have more modern seats (giving you an aeroplane feel). We booked via Aferry (who charged less admin fees than the other websites) and it was easy to get our tickets.
