Gothenburg is located at the mouth of River Göta älv and hence got the name Gothenburg. Its location helped Gothenburg to develop into a significant trade and shipping city in the Nordic countries. The sea, trade and industrial history of the city is evident in the cultural life of Gothenburg.
Gothenburg is scattered with a number of historic and cultural establishments. Gothenburg Museum of Art, Liseberg (largest amusement park in Scandinavia), Röhss Museum (sea and natural history museum) and Gothenburg Opera are just a few of the those.
Kungsportsavenyn, commonly known as Avenyn, "The Avenue", is the main boulevard with a total length of 1 kilometre; it stretches from the older part of Gothenburg to the Götaplatsen square, where the Gothenburg Museum of Art and several other cultural institutions are located.
While in Gothenburg, you can also visit the Southern Gothenburg Archipelago consisting of Älvsborg Fortress, Vinga and Styrsö islands. As a seafront destination, Gothenburg is famous for its fish dishes and world class eateries sporting Michelin stars along with various other affordable options.
23 Dec 2018Stena Line
Stena ships are very good but catering for vegans and vegetarians are not so good. The smell of fish in the restaurants put me off. The outside cabins are better because you have a window. The cabins are comfortable and the hot showers are excellent. The ticket price never goes down so if you leave to book in the same day, the price will go up. I traveled from UK to Gothenberg, so I drove all the way from Hook of Holland to Kiel so I thought that I would not make in time to catch the ferry from Kiel, I left to buy the ticket later and the price went up. The aferry app should be like the results for air tickets with price by day and time not for a best price that is not the dates that you put in the search box.
