Kitakyushu is the northernmost city on Japan's Kyushu Island. The city was formed in 1963 with the merger of five independent cities: Kokura, Moji, Yahata, Tobata and Wakamatsu. Originally built in 1602, Kokura Castle is surrounded by Katsuyama Park, known for its spring cherry blossoms. Head to Riverwalk Kitakyushu mall for some "retail therapy" or step back in time with the vintage locomotives on display at the Kyushu Railway History Museum.
Tokyo is a vast city. In fact it is the largest metropolitan area in the world. However, as well as the hustle and bustle of some districts like Akihabara and Shibuya there are also more peaceful spots like the Imperial gardens and shrines of Chiyoda or the pottery shops and temple markets of Asakusa.
