The island of Lombok is located in the province of West Nusa Tenggara, the western part of the Lesser Sunda Islands, between the islands of Bali and Sumbawa. Its capital and most populated city is Mataram, to the West of the island.

Lombok is of great scientific interest due to its rich biodiversity, in fact the Wallace line passes between Lombok and Bali Island to the West, across the Lombok Strait. The active volcano Rinjani to the North of the island is the second highest volcano in Indonesia, the perfect place for trekking and mountaineering.

Tourism on the island is not so massive as in Bali, offering almost deserted beaches and landscapes of great beauty. The hotels, bars and other facilities for tourists are in the West coast of the island.
