Mariehamn was founded in 1861 as part of the Russian Empire and was named after Maria Alexandrovna, the Empress consort of the Russian King Alexander II and since then remained an autonomous region of Åland.
Mariehamn is a very attractive town with wide streets and green spaces with stunning displays of spring flowers everywhere. It is a small youthful town with restaurants and bars to suit every taste within walking distance from the Mariehamn Ferry Port.
The town offers a lot to explore such as the nautical museum in the ship Pommern, built in Glasgow in the 1930 or simply relax by the beach.
Mariehamn Ferry Port is located in Mariehamn, the capital city of the Åland Island. Mariehamn is on a peninsula with two important harbours built in sheltered bays on the eastern and western shores connecting the ferry traffic to Sweden and mainland Finland.
Sweden is a country with serene lakes and extensive forests.
