    Visiting Sardinia
    • Other than sleeping on a cold hard floor, there is no option other than taking a cabin. This is not cheap but it does mean you are well rested on arrival in Cagliari. As a foot passenger, finding where to book in at the quay, meant quite a wander around the wharf area and a few moments of wondering whether we and the boat would ever make each other's acquaintance, but other than that, everything was straightforward.

Disastrous ferry booking with Tirrenia Di navigazione, Naples to Cagliari
    • We had booked this well in advance as a vital link in our cycle tour from Greece to the UK and had an agreed rendezvous with other family members in Sardinia. We had written confirmation that the ferry sailed at 7.15 pm so spent the morning looking around Pompei before arriving at the ferry port in Naples at about 5.00pm. There we were told that the departure time had been altered and that the ferry was preparing to leave so we could not travel. We were told that Aferry,as our booking agents, had been informed of the changed schedule 3 days earlier but Aferry have no record of this and anyway would have had great difficulty contacting us. We were offered an alternative crossing to Cagliari the next day from Civitavecchia about 300 km away, necessitating a long rail journey on three separate trains as the intercity trains do not take bikes. As a result of this our travel plans were disrupted, we had to pay for an additional night's accommodation in Naples and the cost and hassle of an awkward rail journey. We shall be seeking redress from Tirenia but may need advice abut how to pursue this.

Better To Not Expect Too Much!
    • I had only the printed booking and I tried to find the ticket office in Napoli on the Marina. It is almost impossible when you not use to park in the midle of the road and leave the car alone. Checking in by car is absolutely ok! To find the things on board is easy! However, the facilities are poor, like in the 80's, but they seem perfect if we compare to the cabins. They look like they are from before the World War. Not clean, smelly and i think far too expensive for this quality. I know that my English is poor, but belive me. I felt myself as an alien when i tried to ask something in English. But i have to say the 'nonverbal skills' of the staff are just perfect :) On agregate, it was very poor with a sometimes impolite crew, very smelly, and not comfortable (1st class outside cabin). I'll never forget this trip For sure. A memory for a lifetime ... and this is good. :)

    Unclean cabin bathroom
    • All was good except for the toilet/shower in our cabin. It was quite dirty, looked like it had not been cleaned since last passenger. Very strong smell of urine in the bath area.
