Getting to Nessebar

Bulgarian Fast Ferry offers services from Pomorie and Sozopol, and it is the fastest way if you are looking to stay on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. If travelling by car, the E87 runs parallel with the coast allowing you to reach Nessebar from any other coastal town.

From Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, the A1 links directly to Burgas, a few kilometres south of Nessebar. It is however a 6 hour drive and much quicker to fly to Burgas airport if you are looking to stay on the coast.

Things to do in Nessebar

In Nessebar, you have the choice of the old town and the new town. If you use the Bulgarian Fast Ferry service, you will dock in the old town but the new town is well within walking distance.

The old town
Nessebar's old town lies on a small peninsula. It's an amazing place to walk around because in such a small space, there are so many churches, Roman ruins and museums to explore. These well-preserved ruins earned the old town UNESCO World Heritage Site status. After a day sightseeing, it's great to wind down and relax in one of the many seafood restaurants around the harbour.

The new town
Sunny Beach, probably Bulgaria's most popular resort, is at the heart of the new town in Nessebar. Being out of the Euro zone, the benefits quickly add up once you have been in the restaurants, cafes and shops. There are two popular aqua parks nearby, while watersports are available on the seafront.

When to visit Nessebar

Nessebar is best served in the summer, particularly July and August where the temperatures regularly exceed 30 degrees while the waters can reach the mid-20s. In the spring or autumn, you can still expect sunshine and beach temperatures, but it will be cooler in the evenings.

About Nesebar

Nesebar is an ancient city and one of the biggest seaside resorts on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. The city has two clear sections, one being the new modern town and the other being the cobbled streets of old town which is stepped in history. The new town is on the mainland side with hotels and resorts and old town has signs of the ancient settlement by various civilisations on the peninsula area, previously an island. UNESCO included Nesebar in its list of World Heritage Sites in 1983.
