About Patmos

The historic island of Patmos is the northernmost island of the Dodecanese. The island's historic centre (Chora), the Monastery of St. John the Theologian and the Cave of the Apocalypse are all World Heritage sites. It is thought St. John received the visions that form the Book of Revelations in the Cave of the Apocalypse. In church tradition, St John was imprisoned on the island of Patmos and it was supposedly from Patmos that he wrote his famous (and quite trippy) Revelation of St John. This was one of the most controversial books to appear in the Bible and it was several centuries before it was recognised as being inspired by all the different churches.

    Not very good, indeed!
    • we booked our trip in advance and 2 weeks before leaving, the Blue Star annonced they had cancelled the ferry from Patmos to Pireus without giving us any explanation and any alternative (others ferries were already booked out)!!!!! We had to take a ferry to Kos and fly to Athens, just what we didn't want to do!!! Also in Pireus, when we asked where to go to take the ferry, they didn't take a minute to explain clearly what we had to do.
