About Patras

A settlement can be dated back at least 4,000 years where the centre of modern day Patras now stands. However, despite this ancient heritage, Patras is very much a modern city: it was the first city in Greece to introduce electric trams and was named European Capital of Culture in 2006.

About Ancona

Ancona became one of the major ports of the Adriatic between the thirteenth and fourteenth century, second only to Venice. However, in later years Ancona, like other Italian towns, became the scene of many battles connected to the wars of independence, and was also the target of foreign occupations, including the massive air bombing campaigns during World War II, which destroyed whole areas of Ancona, and badly damaged the port.

    Pleasant, but buy food beforehand
    • The restaurants on board are not very good and there are no shops where you can buy any other food than chocolate, so if you want to eat some quality fruit or sandwiches. Buy them beforehand. Otherways, very nice trip on clean boat.

Round trip by car from Greece to Holland
    • I believe that the cost for the trip is quite high. But again it is the only viable alternative if you want to go to Europe by car from Greece. The 21 hours of the overnight trip pass quickly. What I found annoying is the fact that the shipping company allows for very large families to occupy with their luggage, inflatable beds, food and other personal items, tables and parts of the boat for the whole trip. You will be lucky to find a place to sit around the pool area.

    Anek Superfast
    • A clean and efficient ferry and staff. Good food. I think that autumn and winter journeys should have some entertainment e.g; a cinema and good film. I wish Italy would do something about the port of Ancona. It's dreadful.

Return from a visit to Greece (Peleponesos)
    • Easy boarding but quite cumbersome disembarkation in Ancona, that should be improved. Nice restaurant with friendly staff. A new or looking new ship. Cabin is almost mandatory as there are no aircraft like seats and as a consequence an exodus like look of the ship in the morning !
