About Pico / Madalena

Madalena is a port on the island of Pico, an island in the Portuguese Azores, an archipelago 850 miles west of Portugal in the North Atlantic. Madalena has about 6,000 inhabitants. Only a short drive away is the volcano Ponta do Pico, the highest mountain of the Azores. Those who make it to the top will be rewarded with a breathtaking view. The Portuguese poet Raul Brandao called Pico "Ilha Preta" ("Black Island") because of its black volcanic soil.

Pico / Madalena ferry port

The ferry port of Madalena is located on the west coast of the island Pico. Madalena is the largest port on the island, and as such much of Pico's infrastructure is located near the port.

    • Couldn't ask for a better ride. Everything runs on time and there's lot of seating indoors and out.
