About Ios

Ios island is situated in the Greek Cyclades Islands and is a famous tourist destination, attracting visitors with its golden beaches and the characteristic Aegean architecture. The island is just 18km long and 10km wide with a small population of 1,820 people.

Ios is also well known as one of the top Greek party islands alongside Mykonos, with its wealth of discos and bars in the main town; Chora and the various beaches. Most tourists either stay in the many hotels within the main village of Chora or head to the package beach areas of Theodoti, Kalamos and Manganari.

Ios, however, also caters for people looking for a quieter, more relaxing holiday, with its long stretches of sandy beaches and crystal clear waters.

    Greek Island hopping
    • Good way of getting out to the Cyclades. Very crowded even in June, so were glad we had paid a little extra for the 'aircraft style seats' to relax and escape the chaos elsewhwere - although did go out on deck for some time as it was sunny and fresher out there. We booked our tickets online through AFerry and it would have been helpful to have been given some information about where to pick up the tickets and what time the port offices in Piraeus were open - we had to email the ferry line direct and various agents' offices to find this out.

50 things to do before you die
    • Greek island hopping is one of those things you must do before you die. we were lucky enough to be able to take a month last year to do some out-of-the-way islands. Simply stunning - I can't recommend enough.
