Portsmouth is Britain's only island city, situated on the Portsea Island. The docklands area of Portsmouth have long been important for the Royal Navy (and, incidentally, home to the world's oldest dry dock) and there are a variety our walking and boat tours which will give you an insight into the city's past. The waterfront has recieved much needed renovation in the last decade. One result is the Spinnaker Tower which can be clearly viewed as you enter the port.
The climate in Guernsey consists of mild winters and cool sunny summers, the hottest months usually being August and September with an average temperature of 20°C.
The island is ideal for sports enthusiasts and nature lovers, with a wide range of activities such as surfing, wind-surfing, scuba-diving, cycling, horse riding and much, much more.
05 May 2019Hidden charges
We travelled from the UK to Guernsey with a bike rack on the back of our car. The check in and journey went smoothly and all was well. On our return journey, however, we where charged £44 for having the bikes on the car by a right 'jobsworth' who made us feel uncomfortable with his obnoxious attitude. The unpleasant experience took the edge of an otherwise enjoyable journey.

With hindsight should have taken a cabin. The so called reclining seats are not reclining. The seat back only goes back a couple of inches. Most passengers slept on the floor and seats left empty.

A very pleasing experience on our outward journey but our return involved a long wait at sea after leaving Guernsey and a return to take fast cat passengers and freight to Jersey. We then missed the tide and arrived in Portsmouth 5 hours late.

Ferry was for fairly quiet and therefore comfortable but could not hear the TV closest to our seats. Food was good and no queues!
