Pythagoreio is a small town on the island of Samos in the Northern Aegean, Greece. It has about 8,000 inhabitants. Pythagorio was formerly known as Tigani, but the city was renamed in 1955 to honor the locally born mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras. The port of the city is considered the oldest artificial port in the Mediterranean. Pythagorio was built on the ancient city of Samos. Some ruins of the ancient city are now housed in modern houses of Pythagorio.
