About Cherbourg

Life in Cherbourg revolves around its seafaring traditions and there are many local and hypermarkets in and around the town for those who want to stock up. During the summer, various festivals are held in the Plage Verte Park and there are many good restaurants, bars and cafés at the portside and in the town itself.

    excellent crossing and service!
    • We had a very good crossing from Rosslare to Cherbourg and later back to Ireland with Stena. I would recommend the company any time. The only couple of reservations I have was the quality of the evening meal (not the price), which could be a bit tastier, and the price of a coffee, €3.80 and a pint, €5.70.

    Rosslare to Cherbourg return review
    • Initial check in at Rosslare was unsatisfactory I pointed out that my wife had a disabled badge The initial response was hostile I was accused of not having requested proximity to the lift I instead that I had Eventually with some bad grace we were allocated space by the the lift but a cabin on deck six Before boarding I spoke to Stena customer service who confirmed that the booking did contain a request for proximity too the lift On board our cabin was changed to deck five The rest went to plan

    No comparison...
    • This was the first time we had travelled with Stena Line from Rosslare to Cherbourg. The ferry, in terms of size and facilities, doesn't come anywhere near Irish Ferries' Oscar Wilde. Suspecting as much we'd booked the best cabin available and, for the price, it was disappointing. The lounge area had a sofa impossible to sit on because of a coffee table fixed in position far too close to it. Only the bedroom had carpeting - and nice though it was to have a double bed, it was so hard I didn't sleep well (and I like a firm mattress). Breakfast was included in our fare, and was perfectly acceptable. We took our own nice food for the evening before which was a good decision as there is no proper restaurant on board as on the Oscar Wilde. In future, if the latter is in service (it wasn't for this crossing) we would certainly be choosing it in preference to the Stena Line Horizon. Better all round and better value
