About Rotterdam Europoort

Rotterdam is the largest city in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands and the second largest municipality in the Netherlands after the capital Amsterdam. The Rotterdam port and industrial complex fulfils an important role as a hub for international goods flows and as a business location for industry and logistic services.

Rotterdam was founded in the mid 13th century as a small fishing village. The name Rotterdam has been derived from a dam in the Rotte river. At the beginning of the Second World War almost the entire city centre was heavily damaged by German raids. This explains why hardly any pre-war buildings have remained in this part of Rotterdam.

Rotterdam has many interesting museums as there is the well known the Boijmans-van Beuningen Museum, the Historisch Museum (Historical museum) and the Kunsthal a center for contemporary art. A visit to Rotterdam isn't complete without a visit to the Euromast, the highest lookout tower in the Netherlands or a boat excursion over the Nieuwe Maas and the Lek Rivers.

    Great journey
    • Nos gustó mucho usar el ferry, la habitación estaba muy limpia y tenía lo nwcesario. No hay muchas opciones de comida y el restaurante provee una básica alimentación y es un poco costoso. Pero en general tuvimos un placentero viaje.

    • A very clean boat with lovely comfortable cabin. Early embarkation was very handy and saved hanging about at a terminal. Easy booking and no hitches throughout. Very good value for money.

    So much nicer than flying.
    • Circumstances mean we cannot fly at the moment so wanting to visit family in Holland we chose to take the ferry and car. Everything worked perfectly. The whole experience was easy and the boat very comfortable. The staff were friendly and efficient. The cabin spotless. The meals on offer in the restaurants very tasty. We tried both restaurants and resolved that the Brasserie was the best option for us. Even the weather was kind. We dodged the entertainment but it looked like everyone was enjoying themselves. We had forgotten that travelling can be such a pleasure in itself. Also kinder to the planet?
