About Ryde

Ryde is the largest resort on the Isle of Wight situated on the North East side of the Island. It is ideally located for quick and convenient access to the Mainland and onward connections to London by train or bus. It is a seaside resort renowned for its glorious golden sands that occur at low tide, making its pier necessary on the beach for the Catamaran passenger service.

Union Street and the long High Street beyond the ferry port are packed with various interesting shops, pubs and restaurants. There are also many antique and bric-a-brac with various tiny boutiques and cafes. The bus and train station can be found at Ryde Esplanade, next to the ferry ports, for fast and convenient onwards connections to all destinations on the Island.

From Ryde, you can catch a hovercraft directly to Southsea Seafront, Portsmouth. Quick connections to the Train Stations and Portsmouth City Centre are provided by Hovertravel's Hoverbus.

From Ryde you can also take a Wightlink ferry from Ryde Pier directly to The Hard Interchange in Portsmouth

About Southsea

Southsea, located on the UK South Coast, is the ideal passenger gateway to the Isle of Wight and is easily accessible from all parts of the country by road and rail. Southsea is a small seaside resort, less than a mile from the Portsmouth City Centre.

Southsea is a typical seaside town with a beach and two piers, the South Parade Pier and Clarence Pier. Both piers host amusement arcades and there is also a permanent funfair adjacent to the Clarence Pier and the Hoverport. The Southsea Common hosts a number of open air concerts and events through the summer, bringing masses of people to the area.

There are many attractions on Southsea Seafront including Southsea Castle, the Blue Reef Aquarium along with Britain's only museum dedicated to all aspects of the D-Day landings in Normandy, the D- Day Museum. With only a short 5 minute Hoverbus journey, the Spinnaker Tower and the Historic Dockyard can be reached. The Spinnaker Tower is situated on the waterfront at Gunwharf Quays, it offers amazing 350ยบ panoramic views of Portsmouth Harbour, the South coast and the Isle of Wight, with views stretching out for up to 23 miles. Breathtaking by day and a glittering sea of lights by night.

    What's not to love?
    • Absolutely nothing wrong with this service. I use it to visit clients on the Isle of Wight all the time. Cheap/Quick/Efficient. What more could you ask for?

    Delayed trip due to weather.
    • The weather was really bad when we went to the Isle of Wight. They cancelled the hovercraft because the waves were too high. Not happy. Got a refund though.

    Fun for the kids
    • My kids love a day out on the hovercraft. Travelling on the hovercraft is a real blast - literally.
