The island of Samui is located on the East coast of the Isthmus of Kra in Thailand. The island is the second in size of the Chumphon archipelago and has a population of 63000. Samui has a topical monsoon climate and along with 60 other islands surrounding it, form of Ang Thong Marine National Park.

The island combines the jungle tropical mountain Khao Pom with spectacular beaches of turquoise waters, white sand, coconut palms and coral barrier. Samui has a well developed tourist infrastructure. Tourists are attracted precisely by the beauty of its beaches and the practice of diving, the most popular being Chaweng and Lamai beaches. The rainy season occurs from May to November.

Samui appears on Chinese maps of the 17th century and probably began to be populated 1500 years ago by fishermen from the Malay Peninsula and China. The infrastructure of the island began to develop at the end of the last century, and its economy is based on tourism and exports of coconut and rubber.
