About Skopelos

Skopelos is an island in the Sporades chain of islands. These islands are famous for being very green. Skopelos is now also famous as the island where the film Mama Mia was shot. The main town on Skopelos shares the island's name, and is home to the majority of Skopelos' inhabitants. The total population of Skopelos is approximately 4,700 inhabitants, making Skopelos a calm and peaceful island which is free from mass tourism.

If you are visiting Skopelos, take the time to wander around the village of Glossa, which is situated to the northwest of the island, around 25km from Skopelos town. Glossa is home to many picturesque streets and traditional Greek houses, which allow you to experience traditional Greek life in a tranquil setting.

Ferries to and from Skopelos

There are two main ports in Skopelos. These are Glossa (also known as Loutraki) and Skopelos town. You can book ferries to Skopelos with Hellenic Seaways. Below, you can find all the Skopelos ferry timetables, journey times as well as our best prices.

ANES Ferries operates a fleet of two vessels, the Proteus and the Ag. Nektarios. Each ship has a full range of indoor and outdoor seating and lounges, and a range of snacks and refreshments are available on board.

Hellenic Seaways is one of the best known ferry companies in Greece. Their ferries are modern and offer a full range of facilities on board. As well as conventional ferries, the company also operates catamaran type vessels and fast ferries which can sometimes be up to 50% faster travelling on a conventional ferry. This means that you can island-hop with more time to enjoy your destination.

Getting to Skopelos port

The main port is situated in the heart of the island's main town, which is also called Skopelos.

The second port is the port of Glossa in the North of the island. Which port you use is determined by the route you take. You booking will show you the correct port. Glossa port is called Loutraki as Loutraki and Glossa are two nearby villages.

Both ports can be reached easily by road. As the island is small, finding your way around is not difficult. In fact if you hire a car, it is unlikely that you will need more than a tank of fuel for up to a week.

Like most Greek island ports, there are few port facilities. Instead there are nearby cafes and restaurants.
