Toulon is a fascinating town with a beautiful harbour and the Mont Faron in the background. Cable cars are available to the Mont Faron, for fantastic panoramic views, and to the zoo. The old town is a pedestrian area with ancient fountains, squares, daily market, terrace cafes and a strong Provençal feel. Toulon boasts atmospheric medieval streets, a lively food culture influenced by a large North African community and beautiful sandy beaches.
Toulon offers a wide variety of historic sites, activities and excursions such as Music Festivals, the Contemporary Art Museum, the Naval Museum and the Cathedral. Ste. Sanary sur Mer, Le Pradet and la Valette du Var are three pretty villages around Toulon worth visiting.
Furthermore in Toulon there are many excellent shops, shopping centres, antiques shops and markets as well as restaurants and night clubs. Beautiful sandy beaches are only 20 min from the city centre and are equipped for all sports and also boat trips are available.
Ajaccio is the capital city of Corsica and one of the the best ports from which to get to the island from mainland France and Sardinia.
10 Jul 2019Good but dinner chaotic
All went well very easy to get tickets at the port Good cabin large public areas and deck space Only thing wrong We treated our self's to dinner on board This dinner not cheap but the food nothing to get the taste buds going rather limitted choice and the service we got our desert before our starter The main course took a very long time to arrive One man fell asleep at his table he waited so long You had to point out your table to about two people before you received the correct bill So to sum up good ferry crossing but eat before you sail David

05 Jul 2016Good but chilly.
I have made this trip a number of times. The staff are nearly all Italian and speak French with a thick accent and not much English so they can be difficult to follow. The food and drinks are OK and not badly priced. The reason for the lower mark is that I had booked a lounger seat and the temperature in the lounge was very cold. I am not someone who normally feels the cold but I ended up sleeping fully dressed with a sweater and could have done with a sleeping bag. If you leave your warm clothing in your vehicle it is not possible to get to it after the boat leaves the port.

23 Sep 2015Rude staff, unwelcoming experience
First of all, don't expect staff to be nice to you if all you speak is English. An attitude was changing in a matter of seconds when staff understood that we don't speak French – and it didn't even matter English is not our native language as well. Second, no one was greeting when people were getting aboard. Basically, everyone was left to their own and we saw people sitting on the floor having no idea about facilities the ship has.

30 Oct 2014Sad goodbye SNCM but Hullo Corsica Ferries
Having stayed in France for a week at the end of June, we arrived on the last leg in Marseilles for the evening ferry to Porto Vecchio, but were saddened to see SNCM out on strike and the port gates locked firmly shut. After a somewhat chaotic evening we eventually re-booked on Corsica Ferries from Toulon up the coast, to Ajaccio. Unfortunately the first booking was in three days! Not at all as planned, and with a night in a port hotel (B&B which we highly recommend) and another night in Toulon we finally got to board the Corsica Ferry, for the first time ; it was very enjoyable 5*(and reasonably priced for the car and a cabin with a window and a shower room). After our long summer holiday, with the SNCM strike now over for the time being, we eventually plucked up the courage to take up the return part of our ticket with SNCM from Porto Vecchio to Marseilles. We had an extremely pleasant evening in good company, but a little sad for SNCM and all their difficulties; we'd been travelling with them for more than thirty years.

10 Oct 2014poor checking in process
This review is for a trip taken from Toulon to Ajaccio late evening 10th September 2014. We were foot passengers. Arrived at terminal on schedule checked in at office about 50 metres before the terminal. Had an online booking but had had no facilities to print a ticket. That was O.K. Waiting in terminal. Ferry at least 2 hours late. No communication from officials about the delay, no offers of drinks or anything to make the delay more acceptable. People there with little children. Nobody knew anything of what was happening. At last we were told we could go aboard but when the group of foot passengers had walked to the entrance of the hold of the boat, we were made to wait a further 20 minutes outside (about 1.30am) till we were checked in again! Very poor communication from company to passengers. The trip back from Corsica had no such problems.
