One place worth visiting is the Livonian Order Castle. It is one of the oldest medieval fortresses that has survived to this day. It is believed that the castle dates to at least 1290 which is the date it was first recorded. Extensive renovation began in 1995 restoring the castle to how it looked in the 19th century.
Dotted throughout the city you will find flower displays. The flowers are arranged not only in flower-beds, but there is also a flower-clock and vivid flower-sculptures. Also throughout the city are numerous colourful cow sculptures that remain from the "Cow Parade" a 2002 international art event.
Next to the port on the southern pier you will the giant blue "sailor-cow" statue. This blue cow statue, about the height of two men, is very impressive and is dressed in traditional blue sailor regalia and definitely worth a visit before you leave the port on your travels.
Nynashamn, in Stockholm County, is the southernmost outpost on the Stockholm archipelago. The town has a population of about 14,000. It's about 60km south of Stockholm and easily reached by road and rail. The town is also a destination for cruise ships that are too large for Stockholm. The town is laid back and a popular destination in the summer for outdoor and sea related activities including surfing, diving, sailing, paddling, climbing, hiking and golf.
02 Sep 2019Quiet trip to the other shore
Everything was fine. Only occasionally the smokers did not follow their designated areas, but the staff did not react in any way ...

24 Jan 2018Never Again! Once and Only Once! Not really Foot Passenger Friendly!
Arrived for my Ferry at 9am as a foot passenger on 17th January 2018 and was told that due to bad weather, my 8.5 Hour Ferry trip was delayed by 1 hour..We were going to leave at 11am. At 10.45am we were taken onto the Ferry by foot and up a slippery and dirty ramp into the ferry. I had to ask 3 times whether the ferry was on time or not - no staff said anything. On the ferry I sat for 2.5 hours waiting for us to leave Ventspils. I asked 3 times the Reception lady and she just shrugged her shoulders at me and said I don't know when we are leaving due to bad weather. No communication and the ferry Pullman seat area was absolutely FREEZING cold! We left at 130pm, but this was told to us at 110pm by the Captain. We got into Sweden at 9pm. No communication when getting off Ship, waited for no reason for an extra half hour due big vehicles leaving ferry. Not a good experience,
